Affirmed 1979 Santa Anita Handicap Black and White

Horse racing history will always record the battle of rivals Affirmed and Alydar amongst it’s most fabled equine duels. These two champions went at each other before, during and after the Triple Crown like no other race horses. They faced each other ten times, with Affirmed the victor in seven. but Alydar’s ferocity in each match up not only validated his legacy, but Affirmed’s as well. This powerful photograph shows Affirmed driving to the wire in the 1979 Santa Anita Handicap at Santa Anita Park as a four year old. Affirmed was ridden by Laffit Pincay Jr. in this race and trained by Laz Barrera.
