Secretariat 1973 Marlboro Cup #112

This is a gorgeous photograph of Secretariat roaring to victory in the inaugural Marlboro Cup at Belmont Park. His track recording setting time of 1:45.2 was another reminder of the spectacular talents of this great racehorse. His Belmont Stakes world record of 2:24 flat was superior to any Belmont Stakes running performance by at least 10 lengths. Secretariat’s three year old season was the greatest run by any horse racing champion ever. During the 1973 Triple Crown season, Secretariat was on the cover of Time Magazine, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated. This was the zenith of horse racing prominence in the eyes of the American public.
