This is a gorgeous photograph of Secretariat prior to Whitney Handicap in the post parade at Saratoga Race Course. He would go on to be upset at “The Graveyard of the Favorite”. However his Belmont Stakes world record of 2:24 flat was superior to any Belmont Stakes running performance by at least 10 lengths. Secretariat’s three year old season was the greatest run by any horse racing champion ever. During the 1973 Triple Crown season, Secretariat was on the cover of Time Magazine, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated. This was the zenith of horse racing prominence in the eyes of the American public. Secretariat was ridden by Ron Turcotte and trained by Lucien Laurin. #108
